The painting

In my
words.

Nopoló is just south of Loreto on the Sea of Cortez. We spent a good stretch of our 2019 winter around Loreto, and the quiet back streets were as good to paint as the water. This alley caught my eye for its shapes: the hard shadow down one side, the bright wall, the green breaking it up. It’s one of my larger plein air paintings, 20 × 16 on canvas, painted on the spot in one go and not touched again in the studio.
