The painting

In my
words.

Natural Bridge is one of the viewpoints along the road through Bryce Canyon, a red rock arch with the forest showing through it. I painted it in the afternoon in March, with snow still in the shade and the rock glowing in the sun. Arches and rocks are a theme for me, and this was one of the first. The shape does most of the work, so the job is to get the light on it right. Painted on location in one sitting and never touched again in the studio.
