The painting
In my
words.
Geiger Key is a tiny island just past Key West, quiet, with palms and a long open view over the water. This was painted as the clouds lit up toward sunset, which in the Keys can change by the minute, so I had to commit fast. It’s one of the first paintings from our first winter on the road, and the start of a lot of skies to come. Painted on location in one sitting, then varnished and left alone.
From the day
On the easel,
where I stood.
Photos from the day I painted it: the panel on the easel, the light, the spot.
