The painting

In my
words.

Willowbrook Road runs through the hills near Oliver, close to home. In October the trees go yellow and orange against the dry hills and dark pines. Painting near home is different from painting on the road: no rush, no new scenery, just paying attention to a place I already know. I painted this in the afternoon on location in one sitting, then left it exactly as it was. Fall in the South Okanagan is short, so you have to catch it.

  • Original oil on birch panel, 14 × 11 in.
  • Painted en plein air at Willowbrook, Okanagan, October 2018
  • One sitting on location, not reworked in the studio
  • Varnished with Gamvar for archival protection
  • Ships unframed, boxed from Oliver; a floater frame on request
