The painting

In my
words.

The Dragoon Mountains are in southeast Arizona, a range of granite domes rising out of the desert grassland. I painted them two days running, and the second day looked nothing like the first: this is the evening light, low and warm across the rocks, with the shadows going cool and blue. Painted on location in one sitting and left alone. Coming back to the same place on a different day is one of the best lessons in seeing.
