The painting

In my
words.

Devil’s Slide is the stretch of cliffs south of Pacifica where Highway 1 used to cling to the rock before they built the tunnel. Now the old road is a trail, and you can stand right on the edge and look straight down at the surf. I painted this in the afternoon in January at the start of our 2019 trip south, with the light coming low across the water. One sitting on location, then left alone. I like how much drama fits on a small panel.
