The painting

In my
words.

On the morning of 22 February 2019 we stumbled onto a hotel area near downtown Cabo San Lucas, and I set up there to paint the Arch, half expecting someone to tell me to leave. The arches were a long way off, but the morning light on them was beautiful colour. So I didn’t try to paint the whole view. I picked out a small piece of it and blew it up to fill the panel, which kept the painting simple, almost abstract: the rock, the water and the light. I was really into rocks that winter. There’s a short film of this morning on the site if you want to watch it being painted.
