Emerald Lake, BC.

Quick value study. 8 x 6. Oil on canvas board. Emerald Lake, BC.
This was the second sketch in two hours and by this time, I couldn’t feel my toes so well. And I realized you don’t have to actually have full movement in your fingers to do one of these. Also met a lovely Korean couple that took about 20 pictures with me. What’s the protocol there? “Trying to work here…”? Maybe I need a tip jar

Barn

Today I locked the keys in the car in the middle of nowhere. With my phone in the car. On the plus side, I was smart enough to have Chopin on repeat so I was able to have music while I painted and waited for a tow truck to arrive. Thankfully, I was only about ten minutes from a reserve and someone was kind enough to call a tow truck for me. And my paints were in the car. Probably a good thing. Ran out of white and I think it’s more colourful. All things for a reason I guess

The Tower

The Tower detail. 8×6. Oil on canvas board. 03.24.15
This was painted yesterday in downtown Lethbridge. Everything is a learning experience, including painting buildings. Real talk. I’m not in love with most of these paintings. But I can find one or two things I like about them. Like learning how pockets of light are created through the tree branches, and how to capture that. These little things keep me going. The long of it is that I’m committed to painting every day and posting them here. I figure that if 8 out of 10 paintings suck right now, then in 1 year or maybe 2, 8 out 10 paintings might be worth while. That’s my goal. Enjoy the ride
