Soberanes Trail What a spot. I’ve been spoiled on the Cali coast this past week. Thanks for the studio tour and chats @jessepowellart! And thanks for the tip on the great spot.
Sunset on the rocks at Asilomar, Ca. study. Quickie sketch trying to capture the last 30 mins of beautiful California light.
Heart Shaped Love-Rock Rock
Wilder Beach Swells, Santa Cruz
Pescadero sand cliffs. Strange weather today. Foggy, sunny, foggy. I had to abandon ship on my first one as it was a foggy scene. The light changed when the sun came out, which was this scene, but then it got foggy again. This one ended up being slightly higher in key. Still a beautiful day painting with @chamberlainpaintings again.
Moss Beach, Ca.
Pescadero Rocks. Had a great day painting with @chamberlainpaintings today at Pescadero beach. This is 1 of 2 on the day. Might have to touch up 2 tomorrow before posting. I’ll have another look at it with fresh eyes. This one is a little experimental for me and definitely pushed my comfort zone. I followed the sage advice of my friend who’s painted a lot longer than myself, which was to leave it very loose. Even more loose than this. I had to compromise. He has a good point. Will my paintings improve a lot a year from now if I don’t challenge my mind on when a painting is complete? It’s so easy to overwork a piece, to the point of losing its energy and soul. I do love paintings that capture what they are trying to say in as few strokes as possible. So challenge accepted, mr. Chamberlain. When the painting is this loose and undefined but the values are correct, it really comes together when you step back 10 feet. So thanks for the food for the soul talks today. Love this shit.
Tennessee Valley Beach
Redding Clouds. Pretty rainy in San Fransisco so it’s a good day to hit YMCA for some body cleaning, and while we’re at it hit the laundromat. I’ve taken quite a few pics so here’s a painting from a cloud sunset from Redding, Ca. last week.
