Clouds at Hideaway Beach
The painting
In my
words.
I liked the small one so much that I decided to enlarge it in the studio. The first version was a quick plein air study of clouds stacking up over the water. Back in the studio I worked from it at 26 × 30 on linen, the biggest of the paintings in this collection. At that size the clouds become the whole subject. I kept the brushwork loose so it still feels like it was painted outside, just bigger. Varnished with Gamvar once dry.
