Had a great day painting with @chamberlainpaintings today at Pescadero beach. This is 1 of 2 on the day. Might have to touch up 2 tomorrow before posting. I’ll have another look at it with fresh eyes. This one is a little experimental for me and definitely pushed my comfort zone. I followed the sage advice of my friend who’s painted a lot longer than myself, which was to leave it very loose. Even more loose than this. I had to compromise. He has a good point. Will my paintings improve a lot a year from now if I don’t challenge my mind on when a painting is complete? It’s so easy to overwork a piece, to the point of losing its energy and soul. I do love paintings that capture what they are trying to say in as few strokes as possible. So challenge accepted, mr. Chamberlain. When the painting is this loose and undefined but the values are correct, it really comes together when you step back 10 feet. So thanks for the food for the soul talks today. Love this shit.
